Photos of young VVF patients carrying bowls at Murtala Muhammad Hospital, Kano

Kano State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development today, Wednesday, May 25, visited the VVF ward at Murtala Muhammad Hospital to check the health condition of the young patients and make some donation to them. The patients are pictured with bowls between their legs to manage the leakage.

In July 2013, the then Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Hajiya Zainab Maina, said Nigeria had been identified as the country with the highest prevalence of Vesico Vaginal Fistula in the world, accounting for about 0.4 million to 0.8 million out of the 2 million cases recorded globally.

In Nigeria, VVF has social, economic and religious implications. Many women with VVF are regarded as outcasts and marriages have been dissolved as a result of this. Many girls between the ages of 11 and 15 in Nigeria become mothers either through early marriage or unwanted pregnancies. They experience obstructed labour even as some unskilled birth attendants simply cut through the vagina to create passage for the baby, that eventually results in VVF, the leakage of urine and faeces through the vagina.

The malodorous nature of the condition makes women with VVF become outcast in the society.

Untold Story of Nkechi! The Lady that Got Rid of Fibroids Without Surgery

This is a sponsored post. Read below...
About three years ago I passed out at work and was rushed to the hospital. At that time, I was on my menstrual period and had very heavy bleeding. My periods were very heavy for the first three to four days and I would have to wear both pads and tampons at the same time. The bleeding was so bad that I had to change both of them every 2 hours.
I normally stay at home on the first three days of my period but on this particular day I needed to be at the office to sign some very important paperwork. About thirty minutes before leaving for the day I fainted. My co-workers rushed me to the hospital. While there the doctor told me that I lost a lot of blood and he wanted to give me a blood transfusion. I declined that treatment. I declined the blood transfusion because I didn’t need it since I wasn’t dying,

I was just anemic from having heavy menstrual periods. The doctor was not pleased with my decision but he didn’t force the issue and I was sent home later that night with some drugs.

My Struggle with Fibroids

The reason my periods were so heavy at that time was because of the three fibroids I had in my uterus. I first found out about them back in 2012 and in 2013 I had them removed with surgery. Two years later they came back even bigger. My doctor wanted to schedule another surgery but if it didn’t work the first time why would I go under the knife again for a second time? So I decided to just deal with the pain and heavy bleeding and search for a natural way to get rid of them FOR GOOD!

Searching for natural ways to get rid of my fibroids was not easy. I saw several advertisements ofall kinds of treatments to shrink fibroids. I was a little skeptical but I was desperate to get rid of the fibroids so I tried one in particular which didn’t work. I was still having heavy painful bleeding with lots of clots. I noticed that the soreness in my breast was gone, but after going for another scan, I was told that my fibroids were still there. I was so discouraged that I scheduled an appointment with my doctor to discuss other possibilities for removing the fibroids.

About two months later, while surfing onthe internet I saw a post on Facebook talking about how to get rid of fibroid naturally without surgery. I was very skeptical about it. I didn’t even bother to follow the link in the post to read more. Two days later, as I sat alone in the sitting room feeling hopeless about my fibroid, I decided to go on Facebook and see if I can still access the post I saw two days earlier, thank God I was able to get it. I reluctantly gave the Natural product a try …it just made sense. On September17 of 2015, I began the Fibroid Shrinking program as seen on this website here =>http://besthealthsupport.com/fibroid.html

2015: The Turning Point

After being on this program forabout 2 and halfmonths, my period was no longer heavy as before. Usually my periods would last 8 days, with 3 – 4 days being very heavy. I would also spot a lot in between my periods but the spotting stopped, with 2 days of heavy bleeding and my cycle lasting for only 5 days. Once this happened I cancelled my appointment with my doctor and stayed loyal to my program

The Final Results– Like I said earlier,I had 3 fibroids. One was growing inside my uterus and the other two were inside the walls of my uterus. The largest fibroid was the size of a grapefruit. When I got my results back from a scan I went for, the result shows that I only had one fibroid inside the wall of my uterus and that it was the size of a small apple.  So two fibroids completely dissolved away and the largest one was the size of a small apple instead of a grapefruit. Since I wasn’t having any problems with my periods and 2 out of the 3 fibroids were gone, I decided to just continue with the program and go on with my life.

Fibroids Completely Gone

Two months later, I went for another scan and to my surprise and that of my doctor, my fibroids were gone. My doctor kept going over and over the scan result to make sure she was reading it correctly. She couldn’t believe that all of my fibroids were gone without surgery. My uterus was back to its normal size and my periods are now 3 days long. She asked me what I did to make them go away and I told her “I did what I should have done back in 2013. There are not enough words to explain the happiness I have now. I wish I knew about this program when I first had fibroids but as the saying goes “Things happen for a reason”.
I am so thrilled with my experience that I inspire others to experience for themselves the profound transformation this fibroid treatment program offers.

T.B. Joshua on food scarcity - "You have not seen anything yet”

On Sunday May 22, 2016, T.B. Joshua of the Synagogue Church Of All Nations (SCOAN), made some shocking revelations on his Emmanuel TV station concerning Nigeria and the world at large.  The ‘prophet’ spoke on many issues including the recent EgyptAir crash, African politics and agriculture, even warning of a terrorist attack in the United Kingdom.

He read out a transcript of the prophecies he had given during his New Year’s Crossover Service, highlighting particularly the national food scarcity. On each point read, he expanded further, detailing what Nigeria and Africa are to expect in the nearest future.

FOOD SCARCITY
“There will be large scale scarcity, shortage of food. As a state, country, continent, we have to go back to the farm to arrest, to alleviate the forthcoming situation”, he read. Further expanding on the details of the prophecy, he said, “It is only a ‘shortage’ that you are experiencing now; you have not experienced ‘large scale.’ ” Giving further insight, he proclaimed, “This one that I am saying now, ‘scarcity’, ‘large scale’, it's a proverb. Whatever you can do from now till December - all of your money you will use to buy food - you will not have enough to buy.”
Advising those in the real-estate business he said,
“If you are the type planning to build a house now, stop it for the mean time. If you are in the business of buying land, stop it for the mean time - look for another business. Stop it for the mean time until February next year. Use that money on the need of people now.”
Giving a sombre warning, he said, “I'm preparing you. Get ready; lager scale scarcity is coming!”

In the last few days, Nigerians have woken up to the stark reality of the rising food scarcity. Several reports were released on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday detailing the extent of the current national food woes. Tomato ebola, violence from fulani herdsmen, missed harvests and rising transportation costs have all been attributed as the cause of the food shortage and spiralling food prices.

On the rise of "tomato ebola", Kaduna state agriculture commissioner, Manzo Daniel, said:
"This is only the beginning of a disaster if we don’t take drastic measures because the disease is fast spreading across the north.”
NIGERIA'S ECONOMY
On the economic plight Nigerians are facing, Joshua read from his beginning of year prophecies:
“The president will do everything to reject devaluation of the naira – which is a good idea from a good leader. But there will be overwhelming pressure which he will not be able to resist. Nigeria, we are in a valley. The future is crying for help.”
Expanding on the ‘valley’, Joshua said:
“I explained that we are in a valley but it is not the valley of the shadow of death. There is no snake or scorpion, it's different. When you are in the valley you will cry and cry but you will still get out of the valley.”
“You have to continue to cut your coat according to your size. Don't just continue to spend your money on something that won't be able to help you. Spend your money on something that the whole world will be looking for - food, shelter.”
 AFRICAN POLITICS
Moving on the political climate in Africa, Joshua noted:
“African leaders should quickly arrest the political situation. 50% of counties that do elections, at least 45% of them will face crisis.  More African countries will be under siege by terrorists because of pros and cons in choosing leaders. Mishandling of electoral processes will create a conducive atmosphere for terrorists.”
 UK TERROR WARNING
Joshua also claimed to have seen an attack in the United Kingdom. He said:
“Pray for the United Kingdom like the railways, people, and crowds where people gather because I'm seeing some funny people in their country. But I am seeing with prayer and proper security it will be avoided but there will be a sign or trace that this happened but it will not happen the way that it was supposed to have happened but they will know that something happened there.”
The day following Joshua's warning, 27 schools had to close nationwide in the UK due to a bomb scare. Apparently, anonymous repeated calls were made to each school, warning of explosive devices. The callers told the receptionists that "if the school called the police the bomb would be detonated immediately". The threats continued on Tuesday with more schools being evacuated.

ANOTHER PLANE INCIDENT
On the Egypt Air crash, Joshua said:
“Egypt has happened and the other one I am seeing is very close and I am going to say the country and the place. This one that I am seeing now is bigger than the one that happened. This one is very close now.
Every airport security must be tight. You should be careful who you employ to fly as a pilot or flight attendant because they too will apply for this kind of job and they will be patient enough; if it is one or two years they will be patient until the achieve their goal.”

The cleric dishes out national and international predictions on a regular basis, using the platform of his Sunday services, broadcast live on his Emmanuel TV.

While some embrace his prophecies, upholding him as an end-time prophet, others are highly sceptical. Despite mixed reactions to his prophecies and purported miracles, Joshua has a huge following worldwide, with his YouTube Channel having over 350,000 subscribers and 2.2million following him on Facebook.

Nigerian James Alabi, signs one year deal with Chester FC

21 year old Nigerian footballer, James Alabi, has signed a one year deal with Chester Football Club in England. Alabi arrived at the Lookers Vauxhall Stadium back in late January following his release from Ipswich Town. He will wear the number 9 shirt next season taking it over from Ross Hannah who joined Barrow last week after scoring 26 goals for Chester last season. Alabi was delighted, and said:

“I’m happy to get the deal sorted early on – so it’s a good day for me. As a striker, you always want the number nine shirt so it’s given me even more motivation to push on. I hope to do as much as Ross (Hannah) did with the shirt. I spoke to Kane (Richards) before signing and I’m delighted we can team up again next season and push on from where we left off at the back end of the season.” he said

An inspiring story about how a young Nigerian immigrant made his American dream come true

Nigerian-born Chidiebere Akusobi has notched many impressive academic achievements in his short life. The 25-year old studied ecology and evolutionary biology as an undergraduate at Yale, then earned his master's in biochemistry from the University of Cambridge. Now he's three years into a joint PhD/MD program researching cures for infectious diseases at Harvard and MIT.

But if you ask him, he'll tell you that the biggest academic hurdle he ever had to overcome was in the fifth grade. That's when Akusobi, who had moved from Nigeria to the impoverished New York City neighborhood of the South Bronx when he was two years old, was accepted into the rigorous New York City Prep for Prep program.

The program is an educational boot camp that selects roughly 225 promising students a year from the poorest New York City neighborhoods and grooms them for scholarships to attend the city's top private schools.

For 14 months, students were assigned six hours of homework a day -- on top of their normal workload -- and they were expected to read one book a week, he said.
"I remember July 4th, 2001, everyone was outside and there were fireworks. I was inside and my mom was keeping me awake as I read," he said. But Akusobi was determined to complete the program. "I was taught that [education] was our shot of the American Dream," he said
When he was done, he had won a full academic scholarship to Horace Mann, one of the most prestigious prep schools in New York City. Once Akusobi enrolled, finding his place in the school's rarefied halls became his next big challenge. He was only 12 and the stark contrast between he and the other mostly white, wealthy students was striking.
"I realized that there are people that go on vacations every summer or have summer houses or drivers," he said. "It's funny to go to a school where kids have trust funds and then to take the bus home to the South Bronx."
At the time, Akusobi's father was working three jobs while also studying to become a nurse. His mother, who was also pursuing a nursing degree, worked as a home health aide.
"They were working to support me and my three younger siblings. That's the reason they left Nigeria, to provide a better life," he said.
Akusobi took full advantage of what Horace Mann had to offer. He became head of the dance team and even wrote and acted in a one act show.
"I just took advantage of all the opportunities that I could and did well enough that I got into Yale," he said.
But his true passion was medicine. Even though he had left Nigeria at a young age, Akusobi remained close to family members who still live in the country. "When I go to Nigeria there's a sense of being home because that's where my folks grew up," he said.

But the attachments have come with heartache each time he receives news of a family member or friend who has passed away from an infectious disease, like malaria or HIV.
"It's shocking the toll that infectious diseases have. I could work on fixing that. There's real impact that has to be made," he said.
And Akusobi is getting closer to that goal. Recently, he was granted one of the Paul and Daisy Soros Fellowships for New Americans, which will pay up to $90,000 for his joint PhD/MD program at Harvard and MIT.

Besides his research at Harvard/MIT, Akusobi has advocated on a variety of issues, especially those dealing with racial equality and diversity in medicine.
He helped organize the WhiteCoat4BlackLives movement on Harvard Medical School's campus to commemorate Eric Garner and Michael Brown, two black men whose deaths at the hands of the police spurred a national movement against police brutality and highlighted the issue of racism in America.

He has also taken a leadership role at the Student National Medical Association, which seeks to help get more minorities like Akusobi involved in the practice of medicine.
"From what I've seen there are so many students that have potential," he said. "But there is systemic injustice and institutionalized racism that doesn't allow people to get to where they need to be."
While he believes in the American Dream, Akusobi says he realizes it isn't a reality for many people, especially those who didn't get the opportunities he did.
"The American Dream for a lot of people is a fantasy. I have experienced sub par schools with sub par teachers," he said. "An elementary school student attending those schools and living in a neighborhood without quality food or after-school opportunities and surrounded by people in that situation. For a kid in that situation it's easy to see how they might feel like the American Dream doesn't exist."
